(MOC) Mountain Stream

Flickr post

This was a fun model. I built it after reading some excellent tutorials on Brickbuilt, the Snyder brothers' blog. As is, its relatively simple, but I think the techniques used pair nicely with each other, and it looks pleasant. The rockwork is basic SNOT, made easier by the BrickHeadz square-SNOT part.

The rockwork doesn't continue on the back of the model, but the sides visible in the photo are fully detailed. The tree is also very simple- some 1x1 round bricks and leaf elements skewered on some 6L bars. The ski poles look decent as Spanish moss in my opinion, and I also like the owl. The sand green grass was chosen partly for its slightly muted, realistic look, but mostly because I recently obtained about 200 1x2 plates in Sand Green from PaB.

Originally, the model didn't have any rockwork detail on the front, and the unsightly blue parts were visible. I realized that this looked quite terrible, and so added a 1x1 brick w/ stud on the side to the far bank, and used that and the assembly that attaches the tree to affix a few simple rockwork panels. The minifig was changed for unrelated reasons.
